Blue Dogs Belt Swifts

1st Division
Laidley were at home against Swifts in a One Day fixture. Winning the toss and batting first, Laidley found themselves in early trouble at 3/36. Brendan O’Keeffe (68) and Gerard Sippel (84) steadied the innings for the Blue Dogs, adding 152 for the 4th wicket. O’Keeffe and Sippel’s partnership batted the visitors out of the contest, despatching the bowling to all parts of the field. When both batsmen departed, Jason Cubit (37no) and Terry Emmerson (31no) finished the job, adding 50 runs in the final few overs. No bowler was spared as the middle order was particularly brutal on the Swifts attack. Chasing the mammoth total of 282, Swifts were never in the contest. Michael Topp and Terry Emmerson opened the attack and quickly began about dismantling the Swifts top order. Michael Sippel claimed 4 middle order wickets and Alex Welsh (2 wickets) cleaned up the tail. Apart from Cameron Woods middle order contribution of 35 runs, no batsmen had an answer for Laidley’s bowling. The visitors were knocked over for 110 runs in just 26 overs, earning Laidley a double bonus point. Next week will see Laidley having the 2 day bye before heading to Marburg to take on the newly formed Thunder side.
2nd Division
Laidley travelled to Ivor Masden 1 to play Swifts. Batting first, Laidley struggled to be 3 down for only 30 runs. Peter Wood, in his first game back for the Blue Dogs, combined with his son Harry for a match winning partnership of 120 runs. The Blue Dogs finished at 6/217 from their allotted 40 overs. In reply, Swifts never looked likely to get the runs with both Matthew and Grant Dean picking up 3 wickets each. Laidley eventually bowled out Swifts for 140. Next week Laidley travels to Boonah to play the Fassifern team.
3rd Division
Laidley played Swifts at the UQ Gatton oval on the weekend. After winning the toss, captain Matthew Hogan had no hesitation in asking the Swifts team to have first use of the wicket. Andy Luck, in his first game back for the club, quickly began about his work, claiming 2 early wickets. Josh Sandnes found the conditions ideal for his bowling and also claimed an early scalp. The crafty leg spin bowling of Rhett Phipps cleaned up the lower order by claiming 3 wickets. The Swifts side was knocked over for a disappointing score of 67. In reply, Laidley never looked troubled, achieving the runs in just 20 overs. Jack Pender will be looking for higher honours as he made the batting conditions look easy on his way to a well compiled 30 runs. Next week Laidley begins a 2 day fixture against Eastern Taipans at Bichel Oval.
